Organic Berries Straight from the Farm!
Saturday, July 31, 2010

Beautiful weather again today--sunny, mild and dry!
Our hours are 10AM - 6PM, closed Wednesdays, for rest (us) & ripening (berries).
The blueberry patch is abundant.
Raspberries are past their peak in terms of quantity. There are nice rasps to be found but you have to "seek within" the bushes to find them
. They have maybe a week left.
Blueberries will go until late August at least.
We will have some blackberries in a week or so we think, with a Fall crop to ripen around Labor Day as well.
We will get Fall raspberries too, around late August.
No cherries this year due to the frosts we had in May.

It's always good to call ahead for picking conditions--802-767-3989.

We are a pick-your-own (PYO) farm or
you can buy pre-picked berries at our farm store, along with our certified organic jam, local maple syrup, coffee, and books. We also have free wireless Internet connection at the farm store.

Our berries are Certified Organic
and the best flavor you can imagine. Maybe even beyond your imagination! Come and pick your own for the best value, or buy your berries pre-picked at our farm store.

We are open from July 4 weekend through Columbus Day weekend. The picking season runs from early July through through early October until the first frost. Raspberries ripen first (this year we started picking July 4). Blueberries are ready in late July usually (this year we started July 15). Blackberries ripen after Labor Day, but we may also have some summer fruit from them this year--in July we think. We harvested a small crop of Cherries in 2009--our first from these young trees--but frost and damp weather this year are making getting a crop in 2010 look a bit unlikely. They ripened over the last 2 weeks of July last year.

Berry picking is what our ancestors did in ancient times, and picking your own berries in their natural organic state recreates a primal human experience. It is utterly unlike the world of TV and electronic entertainment, and is inherently refreshing. This is absolutely the best time a family can spend together in the summer! And good for your health too. Blueberries in particular are a super food with phenomenal healing and rejuvenative properties. We might just have the BEST berries in central Vermont, or maybe in all of New England!
(This is our view, but we are not biased of course!)
