Organic Berries Straight from the Farm!
July 2, 2009

Rain!! It's July, but cool, wet weather persists. We have really abundant fruit set in both raspberries and blueberries. We hope rasps will be ripe enough to pick by July 11 but we really need some actual hot weather! Stay tuned. Blueberries come later in July.

We are a pick-your-own (PYO) farm or you can buy pre-picked berries at our farm store, along with our certified organic jam, local maple syrup, coffee, and books. We also have free wireless Internet connection at the farm store.

Our berries are Certified Organic
and the best flavor you can imagine. Maybe even beyond your imagination! Come and pick your own for the best value, or buy your berries pre-picked at our farm store.

We will be open from July 4 weekend through Columbus Day weekend in 2009. On each of these long weekends we will certainly be selling jam, maple syrup, books, coffee and frozen berries as these weekends are usually just before and just after the harvest/picking season, respectively. However, an early spring in 2009 makes us think we will have raspberries by 7/4 this year.

The picking season
runs from early July through through late-September or even early October if there is no frost. Raspberries ripen first (in 2008 we opened July 9. Blueberries are ready in late July (in 2008 we started picking July 25 ). Blackberries ripen after Labor Day. Our Cherries did not reach maturity in 2008 -- they are awfully hard to grow in Vermont--but they are loaded with buds this season. They are pea-size as of 6/24. Although we are losing some to brown rot as usual, a good many are surviving. Stay tuned

Berry picking is what our ancestors did in ancient times, and picking your own berries in their natural organic state recreates a primal human experience. It is utterly unlike the world of TV and electronic entertainment, and is inherently refreshing. This is absolutely the best time a family can spend together in the summer! And good for your health too. Blueberries in particular are a super food with phenomenal healing and rejuvenative properties.
We might just have the BEST berries in central Vermont, or maybe in all of New England!
(This is our view but we are not biased of course!)
